Educators will design meaningful instruction to help create educational spaces that lift up the promise, power, and genius of multilingual learners.<\/p>\n<h2>About the Presenters<\/h2>\n<p>Agust\u00edn Amaro is multilingual learner educator\u2014with over 25 years of experience in educating students in California. Currently a Learning Specialist for the Humboldt County Office of Education in multilingual learning and history-social sciences, Agust\u00edn is also a lecturer for the World Languages and Cultures Department and the School of Education. He also does other work in the community like serving on the language access committee for the Humboldt County Office of Elections.<\/p>\n<p>Erisan Villafa\u00f1a Torres is a 2020 Humboldt State University graduate, very excited to be working in a field that she has wanted to for a very long time and to be helping reduce language barriers that are present among minority communities. The Dialogic Reading approach is an interactive, developmentally informed approach that engages children by making the most of their natural tendency to learn best from active participation. This approach supports 21st-century skills like communication and critical thinking while building foundational pre-literacy skills such as vocabulary, concepts of print, and story comprehension. Dialogic Reading is best used in small groups, so this is the perfect session for paraprofessionals and teachers who utilize small groupings in their daily schedules.<\/p><h2>About the Presenter<\/h2><p>Gloria Topolewski has supported young children's learning and development and promoted family engagement for nearly two decades in Humboldt County. In her current role as the California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN) Region 1 lead, she shares research-based, developmentally-informed practices for supporting preschool-TK-aged children's learning by providing hands-on, minds-on professional development sessions to UPK teachers and providers in the North Coast region.
