Breakouts | Session 2

Telling our Stories Through Sound: Composer, Musician, Audience<br />
Do you want to bring more music into your classroom? First, we need to get comfortable with our own inner musicianship. When we better understand how music making works, and put that understanding into practice, our confidence to more regularly explore music with our students becomes apparent. When our students see our confidence, it allows them to more freely explore the creative decision making inherent in the performing arts.

Juggling: The Complicated Joys of Teaching

Haley Davis, Art Educator
Annex

In this dynamic and hands-on workshop, teachers will explore the art of juggling—both literally and metaphorically—as a tool for classroom engagement and self-regulation. Participants will learn how to introduce simple objects to teach juggling to students, creating a sensory space where students can practice focus and centering techniques.

As life serves up challenges, it is imperative we help students gather tools to navigate their shifting emotions. This workshop explores how creative movement can support social-emotional learning by fostering self-management, mind-body awareness, self-expression, collaboration, and empathy. Participants will learn strategies to help students work together, step into another’s shoes, and create movement phrases that reflect their evolving emotions. Educators will also experience a dynamic five-step process to guide students in retelling pivotal moments from the lives of historical change-makers and beloved fictional characters—bringing their journeys to life through movement.
