Zaretta Hammond
Author of “Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain: Promoting Authentic Engagement and Rigor Among Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students”
Zaretta Hammond will be at the HCOE’s Sequoia Center to present key components of her book during a day of literacy-focused professional development.
In addition to Zaretta Hammond there will be workshops on the following literacy topics:
- Engaging Families as Partners in the science of reading
- Fostering Independent learning
- Implementation Support
- “Making Thinking Visible” Cognitive thinking routines that increase rigor
- Instructional Talk
- Maximizing Discussion Strategies and Peer to Peer conversations to improve literacy
- Understanding Dyslexia and how the brain learns to read
- Data & Assessments
- Story-ifying: Using the story format to make concepts or ideas sticky
